Sueetie is a movement and all movements need a manifesto. The Sueetie Manifesto contains the principles that inspired the creation of Sueetie and will guide the evolution of Sueetie going forward.

The Sueetie Manifesto

1. Sueetie is a movement that promotes the creation of online communities using .NET Open Source software.

Sueetie isn't about one guy, one company, one application, or one country. Sueetie is a movement that celebrates freedom and collaboration while building great Online Communities with best-of-class .NET Open Source Social Networking applications.

2. Sueetie developers are dedicated to the success of the .NET Open Source applications that comprise a Sueetie online community site.

Sueetie is a framework that ties together .NET Social Networking applications into a unified Online Community. Without the great .NET applications that were built by dedicated developers and shared with the world through the Open Source software model there would be no Sueetie. The applications that comprise Sueetie rock and we love working with them.

3. No commercial or Open Source community application ever meets the requirements of a community without additional custom development.

We who have built Online Communities with both Commercial or Open Source applications know that a site containing the blogs, media galleries, forums and wikis is the baseline configuration. It is only a starting point for where the application needs to go to meet the unique requirements of any given community of users. Sueetie establishes that baseline.

4. All enhancements made to .NET Open Source applications on a Sueetie project are given back to the original application community.

The applications used in Sueetie have active user and developer communities around their product. Because Sueetie is Open Source and we want the Open Source applications that comprise Sueetie to be the best they can be, we will actively work with those communities to give any code updates back to the source community.

5. Sueetie developers write original code or leverage code from Open Source resources. Sueetie developers never use code from source-available commercial .NET products in Sueetie communities.

Commercial software companies hold no copyright on best coding practices and methodologies used in building software applications, but as a matter of principle Sueetie developers do not reference code found in commercial source-available .NET applications.

6. The Sueetie feature set grows with the development of each new Sueetie site, as Sueetie developers share their application code in a common Sueetie code library.

This is an exciting manifesto item when you consider how each community inspires new features and capabilities in the Sueetie framework. Then consider that 100 or 1000 developers are building projects with Sueetie and contributing the source code from those projects to a common library. That's a pretty radical feature set growth cycle!

7. Sueetie development is about freedom and collaboration. All accomplished .NET developers who are dedicated to the principles of Open Source development are welcome to join the Sueetie Movement.

This takes us full-circle to manifesto item #1. Sueetie is all about freedom and collaboration, a virtual tribe of skilled developers who believe in the Open Source software philosophy and who love building great applications. Many of us may work alone in a home office or as part of a small team working out of a converted warehouse on East Street, but working with Sueetie makes us part of something bigger with unlimited resources and an inspired vision.
